Biography

Very collectible. That’s how people describe the art of Bev Hogue. She draws on a vivid imagination as she mixes the uproarious with the unpredictable in her series of paintings called Blue in the Face.

The women in these original scenes are rich in diversity. They are widely known as Bev’s creations because they are all painted in shades of ‘blue’. Rachel McAdams, Lauren Bacall, Lisa Marie Presley and Christian Slater are among those who have recently adopted Bev’s work.

The accomplished illustrator found abundant inspiration in the character of her childhood home of Fenwick, Ont. She graduated with distinction from Toronto’s George Brown College in graphic design. It secured her success as a national magazine illustrator. Bev now works from a 1960's pad in the heart of Canada's wine country — Niagara. From her studio-gallery in Fonthill, she creates sentimentally sombre portraits in settings that seem to shift between eras.

In addition to the signature blue colour, Bev often adds intriguing 3-D aspects or a skewed perspective to her work. They may be familiar or foreign, but her blue women all share a dignity and poise despite the surroundings in which they often find themselves. They are curious and confident.

Bev’s work is exhibited and collected around the world. The complete catalogue of her creations is distributed by Beluxe Inc.
